Mel, who goes by the performance name Caramelsauce, is an acting graduate from Western Australia Academy of the Performing Arts. Under the Dame Joan Sutherland scholarship she then went to New York to train at Gibney Dance Studios in New York. Since leaving WAAPA she has found her strength as a story teller in performance poetry. She utilises her incredible emotional capacity as an actor to deliver heart wrenching poetry that delves into topics of rising through our darkest moments, finding our true identity after trauma and the experience of being an ethnic artist/individual in a predominantly white country. She featured at Word In Hand, Oyster Bar, Abantu v Black Birds, Shakespeare by Night, placed first at Bankstown Poetry Slam and will be a part of Club Oyster at Melbourne Fringe 2018.
