Volunteer experience + Haircut!

Highlights of what happened yesterday while volunteering at a warehouse charity event:

  • I worked as a bagger (putting purchased items in bags for customers) with this cashier. This cashier was not very friendly and constantly left the cash without letting us (I worked with my cousin) know.
  • We walked away, asked this lady if she needed any help, we’d be glad to help her. We were told that ‘no, it just gets complicated that way‘. Not offended at all.
  • So, we decided to be helpful and box things up. We asked these two ladies if they needed help because it looked like they did. They were like ‘uh…’ and got cut off when this OTHER lady accused us of trying to take their box. ‘NO, we need that box! You can find your own at the back!’ Excuse me?

90% of these people were probably company’s employees. I got insanely mad. Plus the fact that they didn’t supply us with ANY food/water for the 5 hours we worked like they said they would in the e-mail.

I’m just saying, this was probably the worst volunteer experience ever. When I volunteered at the Breast Cancer Run last year with friends, we got yelled at because we were ‘late’ to our post. HELLO, ITS FRIGGING POURING RAIN OUTSIDE, we were standing out there for the past few hours and we just went for a washroom break.

My point? Don’t treat your volunteers like they need you. Just because we’re high school students, earning our hours to graduate, does not mean that we do it just for the hell out of it. I personally finished my hours a long time ago, I only continue doing it to actually help out. I mean, I wouldn’t have skipped work if I knew we were gunna be treated like this.

Just putting it out there.

Was I ever glad to get out of that mess.

New haircut :)

That’s horrible! I’m sorry that this has happened to you, Bonnie. I haven’t recalled being mistreated at a volunteer event. I hope other volunteer events for you in the future is better. But the way they treated you guys is their mistake. They should’ve supplied water to you guys at the least since you guys were volunteering for such a long period of time. I think people are just stressed from the event and that’s why they have given you attitude. You’re just being a helping hand by helping them out. You did not do anything wrong here.

Cute haircut! Does your hair look longer or is it just me?

Yeah, I have contacted Apple about when the other Bumpers are going to be up to purchase again and they said they don’t know as of right now. So hopefully they will know soon the next time I ask them.

Ugh. I hate it when people just assume that since we’re volunteering, that we need the 40 hours. Well, its true but then don’t say it when a face that clearly say that your pissed. GRRR…

WOW. Those ladies need to calm down! For sure! Are they like menopausal or something? LOL. That sucks though. Aren’t they supposed to provide like water or juice for you? Coz that’s a long time to be volunteering!

Wow @ your volunteer experience. They were unnecessarily rude! I wouldn’t take that at a PAYING job. You’re an angel for finishing out the day for free. The new hair cut is super cute.

Wow. Being a volunteer! I love doing that and it makes me happy.

I like you new haircut. You look really pretty. :)

Oh man that’s TERRIBLE! I hate it the most when people treat Volunteers like that. I mean hello! Shouldn’t they be grateful that there are people who would actually want to give their free time for no charge? -.-

Anyways, I think the haircut suits you perfectly.

Oooh I love your haircut! It looks so cool. It kind of looks like mine… a little thinner at the ends. I dunno, I’m just guessing from the picture. ;D

I’m sorry the volunteering was so bad. :( You’re volunteering and it sounds like they are just using you because they need you. It sounds so rude! I’m glad you got out though. The worst is when they tell you something and you expect it. Like the food. And then it turns out to be a big hoax/lie. :/

You guys were willing to help out, no one should complain!

Ahah that’s true, good nail polishes are really costly. I have crappy nail polish that chips easily. :/

I agree hehe. I think I get paid next week or something, already looking forward to getting the money haha. It definitely is worth it.

Ooh, Doctor Who is sci-fi, not sure if you’ll like it. :P I think it’s my style because I generally like sci-fi and it’s just really interesting. Otherwise I don’t really watch television hehe.

One time I got pneumonia in school and I was so disappointed when I was too sick to attend school. It ruined my perfect record too!

I love reading, but for about a year I didn’t really read any books because I was too occupied with other stuff. D: I know lots of people really just read for school. XD

That is not cool. I hate it when services needs volunteers, but then mistreats the volunteer people. Since its a charity event, people gets snobby for free things. Not cool, since its a charity :O.

You have a cute new haircut! ;D
